Better drainage and fewer injuries are expected as Lakehill Soccer Association started replacing the Braefoot Turf Field on June 25.

"Replacing the turf field at Braefoot Park is a significant investment in our community's athletic infrastructure," Jeremy Mannall-Fretwell, president of Lakehill Soccer, said in a press release. "This upgrade will provide all athletes a safer, more enjoyable experience."

The original turf was installed in 2009 and is well past its estimated lifespan, according to Mannall-Fretwell, and the installation is expected to be complete by August 18. The project is funded by the Lakehill Soccer membership and a capital projects grant from the province of B.C.

The key features of the new turf include:

  • Enhanced safety: The new turf will drain better and eliminate fabric seams, reducing the risk of injuries
  • Superior durability: Made with high-quality materials, the field is designed to endure heavy use and maintain quality.
  • Eco-friendly: The turf incorporates recycled crumb rubber infill. The old turf and underlay are being recycled into future field projects.
  • Improved playability: The new surface's realistic grass-like appearance and optimal traction will provide an exceptional playing experience.

Once upgraded, the new turf will be open to all levels and ages of play, according to the press release.

"Registration for fall soccer is already open and we are anxious for our members to get an opportunity to play on this new surface come September," Mannall-Fretwell said.
