PHOTOS: Girl Guides plant flowers in Oak Bay to celebrate Earth Day

Hillside behind the guide hall blooms bright thanks to young gardeners

Celebrating Earth Day was all about pleasing pollinators for a group of guides in Oak Bay.

The 4th Victoria Guides planted native species to create a pollinator garden on the slope behind the Guide Hall on Monterey Avenue.

The young gardeners added camas, spring gold, bleeding heart, Oregon grape, red flowering currant, and ocean spray shrubs.

Longtime Oak Bay volunteer Margaret Lidkea, a Trefoil Guild Member (retired Guide leaders), also of Friends of Uplands Park, helped by bringing tools and native plants salvaged from construction sites.
